Artist's Description
The 23rd of October 1942 was the day before the battle of El Alamein that led to the defeat of Rommel and the Africa Korp in Tunisia. This Bedford Gun Portee is waiting for the orders to move out from its' position in Ruweisat Ridge to provide flank defense for the attack in the southern sector. The purpose of this attack was to keep as much of the Africa Korp as possible away from the main attack in the north. The gun faces forward for General made it clear that this battle did not have the option of failure and retreat.
A rare vehicle that only was used for a few months. After this use, the trucks were reconverted to their original cargo carry purpose.
About Rick Bennett
I completed art school in my later years to fufill a long time desire. I have been fortunate enough to have been represented by "Skys the Limit" art gallery and had my work shown in several magazines including "Review International" "Street Rodder" and "Military Modeller" I have also done endless concept drawings for several collector companies. This helped strengthen my sketching and drawing abilities. Finally I am thankful to those that have thought enough of my work to purchase it and hang it on their walls. I enjoy machinery the most with a strong attention to the form fits function, yet being what I find pleasing to the eye. The technology also fascinates me. Thank you for taking the time to view my work and please feel free...
